ANN M. WRIGHT

Ann specializes in tax services, consulting and compliance for closely held businesses, individuals and not-for-profit organizations.  She also has extensive experience with multi-state tax issues and tax representation.

Prior to joining Mowat Mackie & Anderson as a partner in 2010, Ann served as partner for four years with Stonefield Josephson (now Marcum Stonefield), where she was responsible for leading and developing their Northern California tax practice.

She has held management positions at Ernst & Young LLP, Deloitte and Touche LLP, and other prestigious accounting firms nationwide.

CARLA S. BRYANT

Carla specializes in handling complex trusts and estates.  She goes above and beyond the compliance work to understand the family dynamics and the role it plays in planning. Carla excels at caring for her clientele, especially the families who are working through sensitive and complicated estate matters. Her clear communication style, empathetic manner and constant commitment to those client relationships set her apart.

Carla has 25 years of public accounting experience in providing tax planning, administrative and tax preparation services for complex estates, trusts and individuals.  In her practice, she frequently uses forensic accounting to complete estate tax returns and trust accountings.  She also works closely with fiduciaries to review financial data to arrive at appropriate funding levels for trusts.

Prior to joining the firm in 1993, Carla managed her own practice which handled individual and small business accounting and tax needs. Prior to entering public accounting, Carla served as a senior accountant/financial analyst with Morrison Knudsen, a Fortune 500 company.

KAREN E. WILSON

Karen began her career with PwC in their International Assignment Solutions (IAS) group in 1998 working with tax compliance for US expatriates and foreign nationals working in the US.  Karen also worked at Ernst & Young in their Human Capital/Global Mobility group managing engagements for senior executives working for companies with cross-border interests.

Karen also spent 7 years with a boutique firm in Bellevue Washington, concentrating on high-net worth individuals and complex charitable planning, including private foundations, charitable remainder trusts and family limited partnerships.

Cross-border taxation – Karen has extensive experience with individual cross-border tax compliance and consulting, including consulting regarding investments held outside the US, exit tax, compliance reporting for foreign investments, and assisting delinquent US taxpayers with cross-border issues.

High-net worth and trusts – Karen works with high-net worth individuals, their families and closely-held businesses to not only understand their current tax and advisory needs, but also to assist with planning for future events.  She works closely with both her clients and their advisors to ensure important information is shares and tax-saving opportunities are identified.

LORNA PADIA MARKUS

Lorna has more than 20 years of experience working with closely held businesses, nonprofit agencies, pension plans and individuals.   Her focus is on acting as a business partner to her clients as they navigate complex tax laws and accounting rules. She has extensive experience in serving as a business advisor for business transactions, entity selection, employee benefits and business turnarounds.

Lorna’s practice focuses on businesses and their owners to assist them in improving their internal accounting systems and internal control, reporting their financial results to outside lenders and investors, and complying with various federal and multi-state tax requirements.

Prior to Lorna’s public accounting experience, she also worked with the ALS & Neuromuscular Research Foundation (now a part of the Muscular Dystrophy Association) as their financial officer and has served on numerous nonprofit boards.

ROBERT B. ROGNON

Bob began his career with Deloitte in their middle market division in 1987. Bob joined Mowat Mackie & Anderson LLP in 1991 and has continued to work to provide value to closely-held businesses, real estate entities and individuals. He is committed to achieving the best possible outcome for his clients. He especially enjoys the advisory-based services he provides, where he is able to use his notable accounting and tax skills in servicing closely-held businesses and individuals. In addition, he provides a full range of traditional accounting, tax and business consulting services (always with the ability to expand those offerings to high-level advisory services).

He understands his clients’ needs and seeks to minimize their tax burden leveraging compliance services to identify tax savings opportunities. He also has assisted numerous clients in merger and acquisition transactions with ensuring the terms are tax efficient and are understood by all parties.

SUSAN S. JORDAN

Susan specializes in the full realm of income tax compliance and planning services for individuals, trusts and estates. She has more than 20 years of public accounting experience. Specific individual services related to income tax planning include: coordinating services with a client’s other professional advisors, stock option planning, consolidating investment reports, IRA distribution planning and considerable experience with income taxing authority correspondence.

Susan also manages the preparation of complex estate tax returns, including fiduciary returns and advises and prepares income tax returns for charitable remainder trusts. She has substantial experience with elder clients under professional conservatorship requiring special income tax needs, including preparation of delinquent income tax returns and successful negotiation of penalty reductions and abatements on their behalf.

THOMAS O. HATFIELD

Tom has spent his entire career in public accounting, serving businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals. He began his public accounting career as an auditor for Touche Ross and Co., where he gained valuable experience auditing a variety of large public and privately held businesses.

After discovering that his true passion was working with smaller privately held businesses and their owners, Tom joined the Walnut Creek-based CPA firm Blanding, Boyer and Rockwell LLP (BBR), where he remained for 13 years, ultimately serving as a partner and the director of their audit and accounting practice.  In 2004, Tom joined MMA and has continued serving privately held businesses, individuals and nonprofit organizations.
