The Firm was founded in San Francisco in 1976 and relocated to our present location in Oakland in 1987 to better serve the entire Bay Area.

Our partners have over 35 years of Big Four experience between them. We offer a depth of experience of a Big Four firm, without the big firm impersonality, turnover or fees. In addition, most of our partners have extensive tax and business backgrounds, with a number of them having advanced tax, business or law degrees.

The Partners

Bruce M. Mowat, Business Planning and Tax Services

Bruce received a B.A. from the University of Washington, and M.B.A. from Stanford University and an M.S. in Taxation from Golden Gate University. Bruce was on the audit staff of Touche, Ross & Co, before forming the firm in 1976. He is responsible for tax planning, business planning and transaction structuring for closely held businesses.

Robert R. Mackie, Accounting and Business Planning Services

Rob received a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and later studied accounting and taxation at Golden Gate University. Prior to joining the firm, Rob was with Touche, Ross & Co., Controller of Williams-Sonoma, Inc. and an Internal Revenue Service auditor. Rob specializes in business consulting, tax planning, and litigation support.

James D. Anderson, Tax Services

Jim received his B.S. from Stanford University and a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to joining the firm, Jim was a tax partner with Ernst & Whinney. During his 16 year tenure there, he served in the National Tax Department in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco and was Partner-In-Charge of their Tax Department in Oakland. Jim provides services in a wide variety of income and estate tax returns.

Mildred M. Brown, Tax Services

Mildred received a B.A. from Stanford University and an M.S. in taxation from Golden Gate University. Prior to joining the firm, Mildred worked in the Examination Division of the internal Revenue Service and at Ernst & Whinney. She works with a wide variety of tax planning and compliance situations, including complex estate and trust work, partnerships, and individual taxation.

Lorna A. Padia-Markus, Accounting and Tax Services

Lorna received a B.S. in Accounting from San Francisco State University. She has 16 years of experience working with closely held businesses, non-profit agencies, pension plans and individuals. Lorna works closely with clients to provide a full range of audit, tax compliance and business consulting services.

Robert B. Rognon, Accounting and Tax Services

Bob received a B.A. in Accounting from the University of South Florida and an M.S. in taxation from Golden Gate University. Prior to joining the firm in 1991, Bob was a Senior Accountant with Deloitte & Touche. Bob provides a full range of accounting, tax and business consulting services.

Mary C. Miller, Tax Services

Mary received a B.A. from Stanford University. Prior to joining the firm in 1987, Mary was a Legislative Assistant to a member of the Finance Committee of the U.S. Senate. Mary provides tax planning and compliance services to partnerships, corporations, and individuals.

Thomas O. Hatfield, Accounting & Tax Services

Tom received his B.A. in Business Economics/Accounting from the University of California Santa Barbara and has been providing audit, accounting and tax services to a variety of businesses, non-profits and individuals since 1986.

Carla S. Bryant, Tax Services

Carla received a B.S. from Portland State University and did additional work in accounting at Boise State University. Prior to joining the firm, she was a senior financial analyst with a Fortune 500 firm and developed her own CPA practice. She has 20 years of public accounting experience working with small businesses, fiduciary engagements and individuals. Carla provides compliance, tax planning and tax return preparation for individuals and complex estates and trusts.

Susan S. Jordan, Tax Services

Susan received a B.A. in economics from the University of California Los Angeles and an M.S. in taxation from Golden Gate University. She specializes in individual, trust and estate income tax planning and compliance services and has been practicing since 1989.
